Lead Pastor

Steve and Robin Rains

I have been involved in ministry since 1991. I married my incredible wife back in 1992 and have enjoyed the journey we have been on together. The Lord blessed us with two incredible sons, both of whom have brought joy in each season of life.

In late 2013 we sensed the Lord stirring a change of direction for our future. Midway through 2014 we were connected to LifePoint as they were walking through a transition. We moved to Valley Center in August of that year.

Family is really important to us, and is important in the life of our church. We truly believe that each generation brings value and significance to the vision of our church. We believe in being a church that doesn’t just stay within the four walls of our facility, but is actively a part of our community – serving, loving, and coming alongside.

I love spending time with my wife, and our kids. There is nothing like family time! As well, enjoying the outdoors or going to the gym provide some good therapy for me!

Our Pastors

Nathanial Thurman

Children's Pastor

Creating a space where children feel welcomed, cared for and safe is my top priority! It is such an honor to be someone who helps children know that Jesus is their very best friend, God loves them and has a plan for their life, and the Holy Spirit gives them power. Children, from a young age, can start to develop their spiritual understanding of who they are in Christ. It is a blessing to be able to minister to your children each week with our incredible Lifepoint Kids team!
My wife, Amy, and I have been married since 2010. We both are from the Wichita area. I grew up in this church and it is an incredible honor to serve at the same church, where I decided to follow Jesus and was taught to live each day for Him. I came on staff in 2010 after volunteering under the previous children’s pastor for 18 months and was a youth and children’s pastor preceding.
Amy and I love to spend our free time together, with our five wonderful boys or visiting family and friends. I am a coffee snob and was the first non-manager certified Starbucks Coffee Master in Wichita. I love to read and am involved in the area elementary schools, where I am known as “the magic man.”

Sara Campbell

Secretary & Bookkeeper

I grew up in eastern Kansas and graduated high school in Lawrence, KS. I attended Bethany College where I met my husband, Chris. We have been together for 14 years, married for 8. We have two boys who are 12 and 7. We began attending LifePoint Church four years ago when Pastor Steve started here. I had known Pastor Steve and Robin from their days of pastoring in Goodland, KS where my parents lived. When I found out they were moving to Valley Center, I brought my family to LifePoint to see if it would be a good fit for us. From that first visit, I knew this church would be the one for us. It felt like home. We felt welcomed and loved by everyone we met. We have been attending here ever since. My husband has been involved in Men’s ministry, and I am involved in Women’s ministry, nursery, and the greeter team. I began working here in May of 2016 as the secretary and recently added the role of bookkeeper. I also, help maintain the church website and design the church graphics. I love being involved in so many areas of LifePoint. This church is my family, and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!

Jim Spencer

I grew up in Valley Center and lived here most of my life in this wonderful community. I had very faithful, loving parents who believed we should attend church every Sunday and serve the Lord daily. When I turned 17 years old, I had an opportunity to attend an Immanuel Baptist Church Revival with two high school friends. I was so overwhelmed by the Teaching of God’s Word, I decided to go forward for the altar call. From that day forward, I knew God had a plan for me to serve Him. I knew he loved me for who I was.
As time moved forward, I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education from Wichita State University. I taught two years in Ellsworth-Kanopolis, ten years in Valley Center, and eighteen years in Derby. When I taught in Valley Center in the 80s, I met a wonderful teacher who attend the VC Assembly of God. We became great friends and she spoke the Word of God to me often. It was her love of God and faithfulness that inspired me to attend what now is LifePoint Church. I have been involved with LifePoint Church for over 17 years, 10 years of this time has been spent as the custodian of this wonderful church. I am so thankful and blessed that God open the door to serve here and in Valley Center.

Elder Board & Treasurer

Bart Balthazor

Church Elder

I grew up in church but surrendered my life to Him at a men’s retreat in 2001 and have not been the same since!! My family has been attending LifePoint Church since 2004 and have served in many roles. My wife and I head up the Seder Meal and help out around the church wherever needed. Jean is involved in women’s bible studies, and I am involved in men’s bible studies and the Men’s Ministry. I have served on the Elder Board several times over the years. We believe in the power of prayer. We believe the church should have no walls as we impact the community to show the love of Christ to our neighbors. We believe in reaching all generations, especially the youth as they are the future of His church.

I have been married to my bride, Jean, for 31+ years and we have 5 young adult children - Warren, Claire, Elliott, Miles & Evan - who are all in various stages of life after high school. I work at Johnson Controls and am currently a product manager for air conditioners. Outside of work and church, I enjoy my family, home improvement and sports.

I grew up in a small farming community in northeast Kansas. I met my wife Jan in grade school in Muscotah, Kansas. After high school in Effingham, KS, I graduated from Highland Jr. College and finished at Emporia State Teachers College with a teaching degree. Jan and I were married during Christmas break my senior year at Emporia. I taught sixth grade in Topeka for three years while Jan finished her teaching degree at Washburn University. After teaching for three years, I went to work for the Topeka YMCA. I then left the YMCA to become a State Farm agent. During our time in Topeka, our children Julie and Ryan were born. We moved to Great Bend when I became a State Farm agency manager. Our family attended a Methodist Church and through a home bible study group, I accepted Christ. Through God’s prompting, we left the Methodist church to attend Faith Community Church, a small charismatic church there. Eventually, State Farm moved us to Wichita, back into the agency field, and we started life over again. While in Wichita, we started a Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship and attended several churches. God eventually led us to LifePoint where we serve as greeters, on worship team, and in leadership.
